An old SRJC acquaintance of mine recently announced the creation of Noisebridge, a hacker laboratory in San Francisco modeled after the Chaos Computer Club of Germany. From their "Vision" page:

We want to provide infrastructure and collaboration opportunities for people interested in programming, hardware hacking, physics, chemistry, mathematics, photography, security, robotics, all kinds of art, and, of course, technology. Through talks, workshops, and projects we encourage knowledge exchange, learning, and mentoring.

They just got a building and they plan to stock it with RFID equipment, an electronics lab, a dark-room for photography, and of course, a computer network. Jake has also been working on magnetic strip reader software so they might do some of that too.
